MEC MOTLHABANE SPENDS TWO DAYS ON ROAD SAFETY OPERATIONS, DIALOGUE WITH TAXI BODIES AND INSPECTING WEIGHBRIDGES AT DR KAUNDA
Last week, MEC Mokgantshang Motlhabane spent two full days at Dr Kenneth Kaunda District focusing on illegal public transport operations, Tambaais, light and heavy delivery vehicles permits and overloads as well as general roadworthiness of the vehicles driving on Local, Provincial National roads passing in our province. Taxi conflicts and violence previously emerged around this area in recent months in the province but the taxi industry has been proactive too to raise their frustrations and concerns. This instability has led to the MEC Motlhabane initiating meetings with all Taxi Councils and Associations across the province. These engagements are expected to culminate into a Provincial Dialogue in order to resolve on matters of common interest. MEC Motlhabane pleaded with the operators to work together in other to overcome the issues at hand. "Working together we can overcome the issues we are facing without violence. These meetings are a way to end the conflicts that are reoccurring in the taxi industry". Meeting raised and resolved to; The MEC also committed to convene a meeting between the SAPS, law enforcement and other associations from Kanana and Khuma that seems to have bigger problems. The following day saw the MEC conducting inspection visits to the Potchefstroom, Ventersdorp and Lightenburg weighbridges which are expected to be completed and opened in this financial year. The visit is a precursor to that which is envisaged to include a walk-about at these landmarks by the North West Provincial Legislature Portfolio Committee. END Next Articles+ |
